Abstract

Eating habits are an important lifestyle factor that can influence body weight and overall health among young adults. This study examines the relationship between common dietary behaviors and weight gain in this population. Eating patterns are assessed through meal frequency, portion size, snacking, consumption of fast foods, sugary beverages, processed foods, fruits and vegetables, and late-night eating. Changes in body weight and body mass index are considered alongside selected lifestyle characteristics. The findings suggest that frequent consumption of energy-dense foods, large portion sizes, irregular meals, sugary drinks, and late-night snacking are associated with greater weight gain. In contrast, regular meal patterns, balanced food choices, and adequate intake of fruits and vegetables are linked with healthier weight maintenance. Physical activity and sedentary behavior may further influence these associations. The study highlights the importance of healthy eating practices and nutritional awareness for preventing excessive weight gain among young adults.
