Abstract

SAP S/4HANA implementation in large hospital networks and healthcare enterprises involves significant technical, financial, and organizational challenges. Legacy system migration, inconsistent data formats, complex departmental workflows, and integration with clinical applications can delay implementation. Hospitals must also manage employee training, change resistance, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and temporary operational disruption. Customizing finance, procurement, inventory, human resources, and asset-management modules across multiple locations requires careful planning and standardized processes. High implementation costs, limited technical expertise, and dependence on external consultants may create additional risks. Strong leadership, phased deployment, data cleansing, user participation, and continuous testing can reduce these difficulties. Overall, successful SAP S/4HANA adoption depends on effective governance, reliable infrastructure, workforce readiness, and alignment between technology and hospital operational requirements.
